Add-ons
These browser extensions enrich my online experience by filtering through the noise of the web.
uBlock Origin is a minimalist ad blocker. It allows you to An essential feature of the extension is its effectiveness on media-sharing sites, particularly YouTube. Therefore, uBlock pairs perfectly with Unhook and SponsorBlock. Unhook allows me to remove the home page, sidebar recommendations, and tabs like Trending, Explore, and Shorts. SponsorBlock targets each YouTube video’s unwanted sponsors, intros, and other sections to eliminate clutter. These three extensions combined transform the internet from a digital state fair to a neat content library.
Old Reddit Redirect simply redirects me to the old design of Reddit, paralleling most enthusiast forums. I can easily view a post without being whisked away to another tab.
LeechBlock serves as my personal productivity police. LeechBlock presents two options for blocking websites: when to block the website and how to block the website. I define which times and days, along with if I want to close the tab immediately, leave it blank, or delay loading the page.
Apps
Orion is a web browser that allows me to use Safari, Chrome, and Firefox extensions while using a minimalist, non-distracting layout.
Forest is an app where you grow a digital forest using focused timers that lockdown distracting apps. Trees wither upon failure, and Forest provides nature/city sounds to accompany the growth of each tree.
Instapaper converts webpages into simple text format and files them in folders for consolidated reading (the digital equivalent of clipping articles).
Being intentional is the common thread among these tools. By supporting my information and entertainment diet with customizable attacks against internet regret, I get the satisfaction of intentionality and subsequent success.
